Relax in the Languedoc, south of France, this summer. For holidays under the sun, our gîte near Carcassonne is the ideal base: a peaceful setting with a lovely private terrace, and lots of great places to visit within easy reach if you're feeling energetic.
Flexible accommodation – rent the Bergerie to sleep 2 to 5, or add the chalet to sleep up to 7. We offer a discount for couples using just the Bergerie, and a small supplement adds the Chalet, bringing it it up to 5 bedrooms which is plenty for the whole family.
The property stands in generously proportioned private grounds with a lawned garden area, space to park several cars, and lots of room (away from the road) where children can safely play.
The Bergerie was once a sheep barn. It has cool exposed stone walls, is furnished in a comfortable and practical way, and is well equipped so you won't need to bring too much with you. With three bedrooms – two doubles (one with kingsize bed) and a single – it sleeps five adults comfortably.
Its high-ceilinged living area has a sitting area with a comfy sofa and two easy chairs, and an insert woodburner for cooler times of year. There's a good quality hifi system, a tv with French free-to-air channels and a DVD player. The large dining table can cater for up to 8 people.
The living area opens onto a sunny south-facing patio, and outdoor furniture – including a dining table which seats up to 8, and a barbecue – are provided.
The compact kitchen has a cooker with gas hob and electric fan oven, a fridge, a microwave and plenty of utensils, crockery and cutlery.
The bathroom has a bath with shower over. There is very efficient electric water heating.
In the utility room there's a good quality washing machine. In summer you'll find that washing dries in about 20 minutes.
The Chalet is a timber structure of about 22 square metres, standing adjacent to the Bergerie. It opens onto its own large decked terrace and has a living area with kitchenette (sink, mini fridge, hot plates and mini oven), and a shower room with basin and loo. It has two compact bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with a single, and we recommend that it is used to sleep two people. It has its own wifi router, so there's a strong internet signal. The Chalet may also be rented on its own - see the link on this page.
For a family holiday at a sensible price you will find none better. I live here for much of the year, so it's fully equipped for comfortable living.
The accommodation will be ready for your arrival, with beds made up, towels provided, electric and wifi on - as well as the basics you need after a long trip including milk, sugar, tea bags, biscuits, a bottle of wine – and a warm welcome.
One pet is permitted, for no additional charge, provided he or she is well behaved.
The Bergerie is about 20 minutes from Carcassonne airport which is served by Ryanair from many places in the UK and Europe. The A61 autoroute passes Carcassonne, and is about 11 hours' drive from Channel ferry ports.

- We had a great stay in Villardonnel. The place is ideal for those wanting a peaceful escape, the house is well suited for self catering which we did. All in all, a great stay, we were really happy.
- The barn is a comfortable and convenient home. We were two, but the space is large enough for five people with no problem. The equipment of the house is perfect. (Translated from French).
