Set in peaceful wooded grounds shared with the adjacent barn conversion, the Chalet offers independent, compact, budget-priced accommodation for one to three people. At 22 square metres it is just 3 square metres smaller that a typical static caravan, or mobile home as they are known in France. Whilst being more affordable, it also offers so much more privacy than a caravan or chalet on a site, with its own front and side views, and a nice big decked terrace onto which the front double doors open.
The location is the village of Villardonnel. It's about 20 minutes north of Carcassonne in the Aude department of Languedoc-Roussillon in the deep south of France. Carcassonne is famous for its medieval walled Cité, and the World Heritage status Canal du Midi passes through the town. The Méditerranean coast is within a one hour drive. Carcassonne Airport, about 20 mins away, has Ryanair flights to and from manyand Europe destinations. Drive from nearest Channel ferry ports (Dieppe, St Malo) is about 600 miles, typically taking 12 hours.
The Chalet provides accommodation for up to two people. It has two bedrooms, one with a double and one with a single bed. The bedrooms are very compact - just the length of the bed and a little space to the side. Each has a bedside table, lamp and power point.
The chalet's living room has a corner kitchenette with sink, hotplates, mini fridge and mini oven, and a pine dining table which seats two. A useful selection of utensils, crockery, cutlery and glasses are provided. There are two easy chairs and a coffee table.
The shower room has a cabin shower, washbasin and toilet. An electric immersion heater provides hot water for the kitchenette and bathroom on demand.
Outdoor furniture and a parasol are provided for your terrace. It's a lovely place to sit and soak up the sun, or relax as the cicadas wind down for the night.
The chalet has its own wireless router for inteaccess, with etheplug-in if required. The inteconnection is almost always quick and reliable.
There's a parking space directly by the chalet, and also an alternative, slightly more sun-sheltered space by the gateway should you prefer not to look at your car.
We provide bed linen and towels, and prices include electricity.
Please be aware that during summer heatwaves the Chalet may be very warm internally and cooling will only be possible by keeping shutters closed during the day. Anyone who has issues sleeping in high temperatures is recommended not to book it in July or August.
