Tucked away in the Saint Mariens vineyards near Bordeaux, the newly refurbished gite has breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards. Not far from local places of interest and approx. 25 mins. to the coastal town of Blaye, with it's fabulous citadel. Bordeaux is a must see and is a truly beautiful city, is has a bustling port and is one of the great historic cities of France. There are numerous impressive memorials to various ages of Bordeaux's power including a Roman amphitheatre and the vast Gothic cathedral of St. André. Approx. a 1 hour drive will get you to Saint Emilion, with it's stunning old buildings and streets and of course the wine. You are not far from other places, such as Cognac and Arcachon and the famous Pilat sand dune. Travel a little further and you will see La Rochelle in the Charente. There are plenty of local markets to visit during the week, where you can sample the local food and wine in a very pleasant and relaxed environment.
This charming accommodation is a tastefully converted barn that can accommodate up to 9 people. The open-plan split-level living and dining room feature ceilings to the full height of the barn with exposed beams and brickwork making the evenings feel homely and relaxing. The living area also features a tv, dvd player and a Sky digibox with freeview. There is also an extensive film library which can be booked with the owners during your stay.
In the lounge there is a double settee bed to accommodate a further two people. The well equipped kitchen comes complete with everything needed to make your stay comfortable including a microwave oven, washing machine with tumble dryer, dishwasher, large fridge freezer and electric oven.
The French doors from the kitchen lead directly onto the sun terrace which is ideal for those al fresco meals whilst overlooking the pool. The master bedroom is on the first floor and has spectacular views over the garden and vineyards beyond. The bedroom is furnished to include a double bed, and a single bed suitable for a child. The master bedroom also features an en-suite bathroom which is fully fitted to include a full size bath and separate shower.
On the ground floor there is a further double bedroom with en-suite shower room and French doors which open on to a private terrace which makes that perfect place to have a more intimate breakfast overlooking the garden.
Also situated on the ground floor is the twin bedroom with en-suite shower room featuring double doors opening onto a small terrace and to the garden, great for children who want to play outside in the morning sunshine.
Outside there is a 8m x 4m swimming pool, which has sun loungers and fantastic views over the vineyards and which has all the necessary safety features. The sun’s rays warm it from morning until early evening, providing you with the perfect place to relax with a good book and a glass of the local wine. There is also a sun terrace and barbecue area.
The owners live in a separate property within the grounds and are on hand to help out whenever necessary.
If you are travelling with young children we can provide baby gates, a cot and a chair-top high chair. Plastic cutlery, plates and bowls are safe for your children to use both inside and outside the gite.
The garden is equipped with slides and a swing which provide hours of fun in a safe and secure garden where both parents and children can relax.
Places of interest
It is essential that you visit the city of Bordeaux, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It has everything you could need, including a cinema and numerous tourist attractions. There are many fantastic shops and restaurants and great architecture is all around you. There are many markets to visit too, providing a real sense of the Bordelais way of life. The promenade is a great place to sit and relax and people-watch, or if you prefer to get some great exercise by walking along the Gironde. It really is a must see.
This is a charming little town and has many facilities and great shops and restaurants. The citadel is a must for any history lovers and has great views across the Gironde river. There are a few restaurants and cafes within the grounds, along with some nice little shops selling souvenirs.
