Barely 30 minutes drive from the ferry port of Ouistreham (book with us and receive 20% or more discount on your return ferry crossing with Brittany Ferries), and conveniently close to shops, bars and restaurants, this elegant apartment is within the stunning Residence de la Plage in Port Guillaume.
The accommodation comprises a double bedroom with a double bed and a bunk bed, built in wardrobe; a spacious lounge/dining area with double sofa-bed, 2 easy chairs, a dining table and 4 chairs, terrestrial tv, video, dvd player, cd radio, selection of dvds, videos, CDs and games; a fully equipped kitchenette with double hob, oven/grill, microwave oven, fridge freezer and dishwasher, toaster and kettle and a full range of crockery, glassware, cutlery and cookware; a bathroom with bath, shower over and sink; a separate WC; a balcony with table, 4 chairs and parasol offering a south facing view over the marina; a residents outdoor pool to the rear of the residence offering an alternative break from the nearby beaches of Cabourg and Houlgate, and great for the children.
For those with a baby or toddler there is also a travel cot (remember to bring your own linen) and booster seat.
The residence is also serviced by a lift and has a resident caretaker/guard.
Duvets and sufficient pillows provided. Bring your own linen (sheets, quilt covers, pillow cases - note a launderette is conveniently close by), or alternatively they are available at extra laundering related cost - contact us for fuller details. Remember to bring your own towels although these can also be arranged by request.
The lively beach resort of Cabourg is but a short stroll along the footbridge over the Dives Estuary with its traffic free promenade, and the town of Houlgate and its fine sandy beach is a pleasant coastal walk or a few minutes' drive away. You'll be a short drive from the smart resort of Deauville and further along Normandy's 'Cote Fleurie' is the beautiful old port of Honfleur with its picturesque quayside cafes, shops and restaurants, and art galleries.
A trip to Dives sur Mer is not complete without a visit to the bustling out door market on Saturday mornings where you can really soak up the atmosphere of calvados life.
Caen, the region's buzzing capital and barely 30 minutes drive away, is where you will find the must see 'Le Memorial' as well as plenty of good food restaurants and almost limitless shopping opportunities - especially at the huge Mondeville shopping centre just north east of the city.
Along the coastline you'll find the Normandy Landing Beaches of 'Utah', 'Omaha', 'Gold', 'Juno', and 'Sword', together with many vivid reminders of the D-Day landings. Arromanches is also well worth a visit. The trip from the ferry port of Ouistreham to the apartment also takes you over another D Day landmark, Pegasus Bridge, the key eastern flank of the landing of 6th June 1944.
There is a train station just outside the entrance to Port Guillaume with a service to Deauville and connection to Paris. The drive to Paris itself is around 2 hours with Eurodisney about half an hour to the east of Paris off the peripherique. Another family attaction not far from there is Park Asterix.
Calvados has 12 golf courses - many within a short drive of the residence.
The apartment offers a first class view over the boats moored in the marina of Port Guillaume. The marina has its own bars and restaurants as well as a boulangerie for freshly baked pain, baguette, croissant and pain au chocolat, and also a local fish monger for the freshest sea food. A convenience shop is also close to hand and supermarkets are a short drive away.
Dives sur Mer is a quaint town with a wonderful Saturday morning market - an absolute must.
Cabourg offers fine sandy beaches, wind and water sports, seaside indoor pool, 18 hole crazy golf, and fine wining and dining.
Caen, the region's capital, is where you will find the Caen Memorial, a breathtaking visitor attraction.
D-Day reminders including Pegasus Bridge, Arromanches (360 degree cinema, and Mullbery Harbour), Longues sur Mer (the only remaining German artillery battery), Omaha Beach (American War Cemetery). All are very humbling experiences.
Bayeux, famed for its tapestry depicting the 1066 Battle of Hastings when William the Conqueror set sail from Dives sur Mer.
Festyland just outside Caen offers great family fun.
Mont St Michel is barely an hour and a half's drive south west and is an awe inspiring must see visitor attraction.
Honfleur, the picturesqe harbour, is an hour's drive along the Cote de Fleurie past equally picturesqe towns and elegant Deaville which is famed for its boardwalk, annual film festival and horse racing.
A £50 deposit secures your booking, whereupon we email you a booking confirmation. The balance of the agreed price is due no less than 8 weeks before your holiday commences. A £100 refundable security deposit payable 2 weeks prior to your holiday, whereupon we post you the key and email you further information. The rental excludes bed linen (bring your own or hire through us - details with booking confirmation) and includes a 70KWH electricity allowance per week (40KWH per long weekend). The security deposit is refunded upon return of the key at the end of your holiday.
