Le Point is a small house in the unspoilt village of Cucuron which lies inside the Luberon Nature Park in the Provence region of the south of France. The village has a good market (Tues) for local produce, 5 restaurants, local shops and many original medieval features to explore. Scenic lake swimming is available at the nearby Etang de la Bonde.
It is located half way between Avignon and Aix en Provence and makes an ideal base for nature lovers, walkers and cyclists as well as those wanting to explore the rich cultural heritage of the area or just relax and unwind at any time of the year.
Ground floor: A spacious double bedroom with single bedroom and bathroom leading off. There is a pull out folding bed underneath the single bed so that the small bedroom can be used to sleep two children. The bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower and a washing machine. The double bedroom has a king sized bed and includes seating and a fireplace that can be used in winter. Thick stone walls mean that the rooms are relatively cool even in the height of summer.
First floor: A living room/kitchen/diner and very small terrace. The living area includes a double sofa-bed. There is Internet and telephone with free calls to most countries. The kitchen area has an oven, with hob and grill, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and all the pots, pans and crockery you would need for self-catering. Views from the kitchen window are breathtaking (a bit of consolation when washing up). The very small private terrace is suitable for two to sit, enjoy the sun and eat.
The accommodation is most suitable for a couple or small family but please note that the ancient stone staircase to the first floor is quite steep and would be unsuitable for toddlers or the disabled. The house is all electric. There is no TV but there is an Internet radio, and wifi (or wired) internet access which comes with a phone allowing free calls to landlines in the UK, France, USA and Canada. (There is no computer at the house so you would need to bring a laptop or other device to use the internet although the phone may be used without a computer). There are plenty of heaters for winter use and two fans for the summer.
Cucuron is a small village (pop. 1800) at the foot of the southern slopes of the Luberon range. It is agricultural, and is surrounded by some fields of wheat and fruit trees, and increasingly, by vineyards. The view from the top of the hill near Le Point is fine, and well seen in the film 'Horseman on the Roof'. (The area is often used for filming - Cucuron featured in 'A Good Year' and the nearby village of Vaugines was a location for Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources). A special feature of the village is the old carp pond surrounded by plane trees where the weekly market is held on Tuesdays. Cucuron has five restaurants, one with a Michelin star chef, withing easy walking distance of Le Point.
