| Despite just a 35 minute drive from Nice International airport, Le Foulon could be a million miles from anywhere. Overlooking the Valley of the Wolf, peace and tranquilly come as standard. Nearby are numerous Medieval Villages, where Provencal life has ticked by for Centuries unchanged. And yet the French Riviera, from Cannes to Monaco, and even across the border into Italy, are easily explored from here.
The Estate is dedicated to making your holiday as memorable as possible. From the largest, most comfortable beds draped in the softest Egyptian cotton, to super-powerful showers and large antique roll-top baths, we started with getting the very basics right and then applied the same attention to detail to everything else.
Le Foulon has all the comforts of home, including a warm and friendly atmosphere, and outside of the summer months it is run as a luxurious guesthouse. It's much larger, inside and out, than many villas that cater for a similar number of guests.
There are three important benefits of being situated at the foot of the mountains behind the Cote d'Azur. Firstly the dreaded Mosquitos don't live here, secondly the nights are cooler than the coast and let you sleep like a baby, and thirdly, if you don't want to join the throng of the French Riviera your holiday can be as peaceful as you desire.
We have an energy efficient swimming pool heat pump, but the cooler nights mean the pool cover is essential not to waste the energy from this indulgent luxury. By the way, don't think the cooler nights mean you need the central heating - it's really only needed in the Winter.
ROOMS
Two have spacious mezzanine sleeping levels reached by spiral staircase, overlooking their own small lounge areas, complete with Chaisse Longue and amazing views shared by all the rooms. 6 doubles with en-suite bathrooms, 3 with an en-suite shower room. 4 doubles can have the beds separated into twin beds.
BATHROOMS
5 of the en-suites were new in 2005, 3 of which have renovated antique roll-top baths and separate shower cubicle, one room has a double shower with 2 heads and lots of space. The other two rooms have shower cubicles. 4 of the en-suites were new in 2008, 3 of which have bath with integral showers and 1 with shower cubicle. All have bundles of hot water supplied at high pressure, no matter how many taps are running.
KITCHEN
The large, stainless steel kitchen is an absolute joy to use if you love cooking. There are seven gas hobs, two big ovens (one electric/one gas), an enormous fridge, chest freezer and every utensil, pot, pan and kitchen gadget you could want.
ACCESS
The living space (lounge, dining room, kitchen and balcony) is only two steps up from two of the en suite rooms so Le Foulon is surprisingly good for those with mobility difficulties. There is also a fairly flat track running through the middle of our land. |
