La Ferme de Grand Jean
Our farm is in the Pecharmant wine area, 7km from Bergerac in the Dordogne region. Guests have access to our 46 acres of land and river frontage, where there is plenty wildlife to see. It's easy to get here: our local airport, Bergerac, has flights from Southampton, Exeter, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Manchester, Leeds, Stansted, Bristol, Liverpool, East Midlands, Rotterdam, Charleroi and Paris.
The Farmhouse (£ 610 to £ 1180 per week)
We offer an original stone built Perigordian farmhouse with a steep roof in its own garden and with a private pool (8 m x 4 m x m deep with semi-circular steps added at one end). There is a double room, two twin rooms and a single room. Bathroom and separate toilet. There is a big living room with open fireplace.
A hallway with the original bread oven leads through to the modern kitchen. There is a self-contained annex for 2 people (double) which can be booked separately (£ 100 to 250 per week). Linen and towels are supplied. There is a hair-dryer; also a washing m/c and an iron in the utility room for you to use. We have cots and a high chair to cope with 1 or 2 babies.
The Barn (£ 530 to £ 750 per week)
Our stone-built converted barn caters for 4 to 6 people. The original cow-byre timbers have been kept as a feature. It is on two floors. The ground floor consists of the dining/ living area and the double bedroom (king-size bed) with en suite bathroom (bath, shower, toilet, bidet and wash basin). Upstairs is the second bedroom with two single beds and en-suite shower room (shower, toilet, wash basin) and access to a further single room. Part of the living area, separated by the cow-byre to make a bar, is the kitchen with cooker, dish washer, fridge and microwave.
There is a double put-u-up in the living room if needed. There is a pool in the garden (10 m x 5 m x m deep with wide steps) and we have installed a sliding cover for the pool (on 24 June the temperature was 32 C). The barn has its own private patio with table and chairs shaded by a plum tree. There is a barbecue in the garden for you to use. Linen and towels are supplied. In the main bedroom there is a hair-dryer and iron. We have cots and a high chair to cope with 1 or 2 babies.
You can ride one of our well chosen horses or ponies. Louise is registered with the British Horse Society and teaches to their standards. She has experience of teaching all abilities. There is the opportunity to ride the fields, woods and tracks on our farm. For those with enough experience we can offer hacking through nearby forests and through very rural villages. Picnic rides on the farm or in the forest can be arranged. We have a dog, a cat and some chickens.
Close by there is a large choice of restaurants and many vineyards, forests, chateaux, castles, caves, bastide towns and the Dordogne and Vezere rivers where you can hire canoes or enjoy the scenery. The pre-history sites at Lascaux and along the Vezere are most impressive. In July and August many villages have open-air evening markets where you purchase local produce (salad, duck or beef with chips, moules or oysters, strawberries to eat at communal tables. Great fun and a lovely atmosphere.
For riders it must be safety first at all times. We assess all riders to ensure that they can cope safely. We insist on hard hats to the current standard and boots or shoes with a smooth sole and small heel. We have some to lend but cannot guarantee that they will fit you properly.
We will ask you to supply one third of the cost as a deposit to guarantee the booking for your holiday and we will ask you to send us the remaining two thirds four weeks before your holiday starts.
